Piwi
arrived in New Jersey on 17 July 2001, just in time to go to New
Hampshire, with his host family on vacation!
He made it safely
all the way to the USA!
From what we
heard, he had a really great time and got to do all sorts of fun
things! We had a couple of postcards from him and a few emails, telling us
what he'd been up to...and he tells us that the photos will be here soon!
The
back of this postcard says..."THE OLD MAN OF THE MOUNTAIN FRANCONIA NOTCH
N.H One of the world's most famous natural profile, it is also
called the Great Stone Face. It was immortalized in a short story by Nathaniel
Hawthorne and has appeared on a U.S postage stamp. The face measures 48 feet
from chin to forehead.

Hi Mum! I'm back from
Holiday! And boy am I tired! These people sure know how to tire out a
wittle bird! I had loads of fun though - we were on the go constantly!
These Yankee nuts took me mountain climbing - and I said "Oh no!
I'm scared! I'm only a defenseless, flightless bird - what am I doing up
this high?" They also took me looking for moose - and I said
"Oh no! I'm scared of moose! I'm only a wittle defenseless,
flightless bird!" So they took me for a ride in their Jeep - and I
said "Oh no! I'm scared of cars! My great, great, great uncle Fred
was killed by a car! Oh no!" It was about then that Esther said
"When is it time for that bird to move on to someone else? He never
shuts up!" I did talk the entire time we were away - but they kept
scaring me! But Doug kept me in a cryogenic chamber at night, so I was
safe there! But as soon as they woke up each morning, they would hear
"Oh no! Get me out of here! It's cold and dark - and I'm missing
everything!" That's all for now Mum! I just wanted you to know that
I'm OK (although I swear these Yankees were trying to kill me!).

Piwi
in New Jersey, with Scottie and Dutch...and I'm so glad Doug's holding onto
them...Piwi looks a bit worried! Dogs are one of the worst predators of Kiwi's in their natural habitat
over here...but your dogs are far too refined for that aren't they ;-)
Piwi lives to tell another tale!
And
here he is camping, New Jersey style. We have Great Outdoors tents over here
too! Piwi's used to this...we go camping all the time during our summer.
I'm sorry if he kept you awake, but Kiwi's are nocturnal you know!
And if you didn't...I suppose you've
learnt by now!
