Gisborne, New Zealand (June 2001)
This was the first point of land in New Zealand, sighted by Nicholas Young, the cabin boy on board Captain James Cook's Endeavour and according to a NZ Heritage book I have here, he sighted land from the masthead at 2.00pm on October 7 1769. I bet not too many Kiwi's know that ;-)
I'm still here...I had to hang around for this...My newest cousin...I had to meet him before I left. He tried for the 4th, but was born on 5th July 2001. He's only 6 days old in this photo and I think he's cute :-)
Piwi left Gisborne in a plane like this one on 11 July 2001. He'll transfer to an Air New Zealand International Flight when he arrives in Auckland. He's started his big adventure... and he's on his way to the U.S.A Hope to hear from you soon Piwi!
Just a few photos of in and around Gisborne... Gladstone Road Bridge into town...Gladstone Road and the Town Clock...from Gladstone Road looking down Grey Street to Waikanae Beach...and the same again, zoomed in. The Marina, in the Harbour Basin...the building in the background is the Tatapouri Sports Fishing Club... a carpark along Centennial Marine Drive....Midway beach looking towards the port...Midway Beach, looking along the bay.
